Blogging competition entry!
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
Ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
- Brandon Heath, “Give me your eyes”
Beyond the boundaries of your city’s lights,
Stand the heroes waiting for your cries.
So many times you did not bring this on yourself,
When that moment finally comes,
I’ll be there to help.
On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care,
I’ll be right here.
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We’ll always be ready because we will always be there.
When there are people crying in the streets,
When they’re starving for a meal to eat,
When they simply need a place to make their beds,
Right here underneath my wing,
You can rest your head.
Hope and pray that you’ll never need me,
But rest assured I will not let you down.
I’ll walk beside you but you may not see me,
The strongest among you may not wear a crown.
On that day when you don’t have the strength for the burden you bear,
I’ll be right here!
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We’ll always be ready because we will always be there.
-Three Doors Down, “Citizen Soldiers”
We pass their glances each day not knowing where they come from or why they are where they are. They all have a story and a special gift to give to the world, if only someone would take time to listen and help. I hope that this video inpired you. Just know that these people deserve a smile and a small gesture to know that you care. We are all in this world together.

Excellent work creating the video Makaya. Can you tell me what application on your computer you used to create it? And what was the hardest part of making it?
I also think you choose a really good topic with a powerful message. Was this your own choice and what you are passionate about?
PS thanks for entering The Edublogger Student blogging competition.

Makaya,
What a fantastic video! I haven’t made any videos yet with my classes but I reckon some of the students can already do it and would be able to teach me. What did you use to create it and what did you have to do to upload it to YouTube?

Wow – I am an eighth grade English teacher and I am so impressed with your video post! I wish all of my students had a chance to see it as part of our “Teaching Tolerance” unit. How did you create the video… what software did you use? I’d like to try it out! Again, wonderful work!

Makaya, what a thought-provoking video you made! Congratulations on your win. I’m using Zamzar to convert your video so I can show it to my fourth graders since YouTube is blocked at our school. I teach in New Orleans, Louisiana. I hope you continue to blog. Feel free to visit my class blog at http://pnaugle.blogspot.com

[...] Makaya’s impressive work which earned top honors reminds us to look around and notice those around us who too often remain nameless. Her video, a montage of pictures, music, and moving words, reminds us of our personal responsibility to take action, to care about those who are homeless. [...]

That is just phenomenal that a young person can make such a good blog like this. I am still learning, but soon enough mine will be like this too.
