Hero

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

My giudance, my caregiver, my shopping buddy, my shoulder to cry on, my bestfriend. My hero is my mom.I have been alive for a whole 16 years and for all those years, my mom has never left my side. She has never abandonded me or has left me go astray. She has guided me and made me the person I am today. My mom is always there for me and gives all her free time to help my brother and I out. Whether it’s driving us to practice or taking us to the mall with our friends, my mom never complains about a single thing. I hope someday when I have children I will be able to treat them as well as my mom treats me. I also hope someday I can repay her for everything she has done for me in my life. I love you mama, You are my hero.

TIGERS AND BLOGS

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
When I post a link to a page or someone’s blog I usually consider three things. One, their creativity and colors of their page and layout. Second, the details about every sing thing in their writing. When I read something, I like to be able to see it in my head as I read the words describing it. And last, their word choice and voice. If they show their personality through their writing, the story is one hundred times more interesting. It’s almost like they are standing right there and telling it to you personally.

An animal I would love to see in the wild is the tiger. Ever since I went to the Portland Zoo for the first time as a child, I have been in love with tigers. They are so pretty and add so much color to the wild forests and jungles. I think that they deserve to be in the wild because their nature is to not be tamed. They are cats, and cats like to run free and be independent.

The Color Green

My color that I chose is green. Green not only is the color of success, but the vibrant hue of Oregon. All of the abundant forest and fields of grass radiate one common color, green.

Us Oregonians commonly take our state’s beautiful color for granted. Not many places are this vibrant with so many trees and fresh oxygen to breath.

Green is also one of the colors of the highly successful Oregon Ducks. Along with bright electric yellow, when duck fans fill Autzen stadium, the colors are both electrifying and distracting to the other teams and fans.

Blogging competition entry!

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
Ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

- Brandon Heath, “Give me your eyes”

Beyond the boundaries of your city’s lights,
Stand the heroes waiting for your cries.
So many times you did not bring this on yourself,
When that moment finally comes,
I’ll be there to help.

On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care,
I’ll be right here.
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We’ll always be ready because we will always be there.

When there are people crying in the streets,
When they’re starving for a meal to eat,
When they simply need a place to make their beds,
Right here underneath my wing,
You can rest your head.

Hope and pray that you’ll never need me,
But rest assured I will not let you down.
I’ll walk beside you but you may not see me,
The strongest among you may not wear a crown.

On that day when you don’t have the strength for the burden you bear,
I’ll be right here!
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We’ll always be ready because we will always be there.

-Three Doors Down, “Citizen Soldiers”

We pass their glances each day not knowing where they come from or why they are where they are. They all have a story and a special gift to give to the world, if only someone would take time to listen and help. I hope that this video inpired you. Just know that these people deserve a smile and a small gesture to know that you care. We are all in this world together.

Earth Day

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Five minutes ago I was soaping up the dishes, washing my hands squeeky clean, and drying them with yet another paper towel. Then I realized we just put out a new roll and its almost half gone already. I guess you could say I would like to be “Environment Friendly” and use the 3r’s, but I’m not perfect. I probably could have pulled out one of the little used hand towels in the kitchen drawer, which might have saved a whole tree.

Yesterday, I was watching the Tyra Show and there was a girl my age that started an organization to make the world a greener place to live. She has made such an impact on her community and It was really inspiring to hear about what she has done.

This is the first time I have heard about the “Earth Hour” and plan on taking action and participating. I am also going to get my family involved to start our path of a reducing, reusing, and recycling. I think that an event like this is amazing and the more people that get involved, the better place the world will be.

My Visit to Alcatraz.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
ALCATRAZ HISTORY http://www.alcatrazhistory.com/rs2.htm

INMATE RULES AND REGULATIONS http://www.alcatrazhistory.com/regpage1.htm

This summer my mom, my brother and I traveled to San Francisco and were able to be some of the lucky tourists to visit Alcatraz. We were all very excited but didn’t really know what to expect, and what we experienced was more than we could have imagined.

To get to alcatraz, we boarded a Ferry with other tourists all anticipating what awaited on the Alcatraz island. When we arrived at Alcatraz, there was a haunting feeling of seeing the old structure and knowing dangerous people once walked those grounds. We made our first steps on the island and were ready for our adventure.

The tours given at Alcatraz are automated, which meant you receive a tape recording and headset which tours you through the prison by yourself and no tour guide. They toured you through the kitchen area and dining hall, where you sat down and felt what it must of felt like to be a hungry prisoner. You toured Broadway, C-D Street, Michigan Avenue, Park Avenue, and Sunrise Alley which are all of the hallways through the prison 5’ by 9’ foot cells. As I walked through the halls stopping at the specified cells, I could hear the sounds of the men yelling and shouting at each other through the bars.

The part of my tour of Alcatraz that really pulled at my heart was the visiting hours. The inmates had to earn their rights to have any visitors come see them and even if they earned it, the chance of anyone coming to see them was rare. I got to see where the visitors would be able to talk to the inmates. It was a hole no bigger than a foot in diameter and a little window. The inmates couldn’t even touch or hug their loved ones after not seeing them for 15 years. I had tears in my eyes imagining what that would feel like.

We were also educated on the legendary “Escape from Alcatraz.” The men involved in this plot tricked the officers by making fake heads and placing them on their pillows. One of the men carved out a hole in his wall with a spoon. Some of the men died, but the others were never found.

My experience at Alcatraz was seriously unforgettable. As I was writing this blog I kept getting the chills because I can still feel and smell the prison almost like I was there yesterday. If you ever get the chance to go to San Francisco, do yourself a favor and visit Alcatraz. It is an incredible experience of a lifetime.

Podcast Review- “Star Girl”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
My favorite podcast was Star Girl by Nora. I loved how when I listened to it I felt like I was actually there in the story. The way each scene of the podcast was distinguished by different music or melodies made me feel the moods of each part. Every person had a different voice which made it easy to know who was talking. All the voices were very clear and easy to understand. I actually felt like I was looking at a new girl at school hearing everyones comments about her. I liked how much description the podcast had about Star Girl. It makes me want to know more about her and read the story to see how she does in her new school. Star Girl sounds like a heart warming story that every person should read. I am definitely planning on reading it.
